Microsoft considering ‘significant’ layoffs

microsoft_small.jpgADOTAS — Microsoft could be the next in line for layoffs.

Google, Motorola and Nortel all announced some type of restructuring this week in the face of the downturn, whether it be layoffs, other cost cutting measures or bankruptcy. But Microsoft is the one everyone is still waiting on, though others just want to be “giddy like school girls.”

Rumors of Microsoft announcing layoffs or of restructuring is been long talked about, and some say long overdue. Some are saying 15,000 people worldwide, 17 percent of its workforce, could be laid off, though others are saying little will likely happen, right now. The company doesn’t have a reputation of such layoffs.

But the company is considering  ”significant work force reductions,” according to the WSJ. Plans for the cutbacks are still be discussed, and Microsoft could still find alternative methods of reining in costs.
