Michael Arrington takes a break

techcrunch.jpgADOTAS — Since I arrived here at Adotas a few months back, I have been helped in my learning curve by writers such as Henry Blodget, Kara Swisher and Michael Arrington.

Now Arrington is apparently taking time off because of an overload from the stress, nasty emails and threats of violence. The last straw was someone spitting in his face at a conference in Germany. He says he plans to write through this week and take time off, for the most part, in February.

Arrington writes with an enthusiam that reveals a man who loves the technology world. He can be funny, ribald, mean and, yes, nasty. But it’s stunning that he and his family had to have security for death threats:

“We write about technology and entrepreneurship. These things are important, but not so important that we should fear for our safety or the safety of our families.”

I’ve gotten two death threats in my life as a reporter. Neither were substantial, and I laughed it off as part of the life.  But if anyone threatened my family, I would have reacted differently. Seriously, people need to get a life, and I hope Arrington is able to clear his head and return.

  1. This is awful. Don’t people realize that he’s just doing his job? There’s no reason to threaten his life or his family’s safety.
