Will Yahoo’s New Chief Be Micro’s Sloppy Seconds?
ADOTAS – The speculation of who will take the reins at Yahoo seems to be narrowing in focus. Today, two new (probably founded in reality) rumors have emerged from the fray.
The first is that Peter Chernin, News Corp.’s COO, was approached by board chairman Roy Bostock for Yahoo’s top slot, but that Chernin swiftly turned down the opportunity. Chernin was reportedly Yahoo’s number one choice, but Chernin was so uninterested, he declined to even fly out to Sunnyvale to discuss his options.
The second is that, in a bizarre game of musical chairs, Brian McAndrews may be next in line to run Yahoo. McAndrews was reportedly let go from Microsoft when they hired Qi Lu, a former Yahoo executive, to run its online services group. McAndrews joined Microsoft as the head of its advertiser and publisher solutions group as part of its $6 billion acquisition of aQuantive in 2007. But many in the industry speculate that Yahoo won’t want Microsoft’s unceremoniously dumped sloppy seconds.

Kathleen, do you have any idea where the phrase “sloppy seconds” comes from? If you don’t, you should find out. If you do, I’m surprised at your crudeness.
Interesting article but the headline and conclusion leads one to question the author’s taste in emulating a Jock’s demeaning comments by the use of a gangbang term.
Are we going to witness this demeaning term now enter accepted business lexicon or will editors levy a six article suspension on authors who use such tasteless language?
Agree, the title feels like a sloppy choice.
Get over it the world is crude, rude, and doesn’t care. Good bit of info here, take it and go make an investment.. or more small talk…
I’m no ingenue, but these comments have a point. “Sloppy seconds” is not only offensive and demeaning to women, but it also fails the “at least it is funny” test, for anyone but a twelve year old boy. Next up: Yahoo!’s Dirty Sanchez plays the rusty trombone. Yuk, Yuk.
Somewhat surprising that Adotas hasn’t ventured with some kind of an apology….I guess they figure that any kind of controversy/traffic would be a good thing. Someone should direct them to Valleywag’s layoffs — Direct advertisers won’t put up with this kind garbage–which you would think would be obvious to a freakin advertising site.
I am aware of sloppy second’s rather unsavory etymological connotations. People do use the phrase all the time to mean other things and I certainly did not mean for it to be interpreted in the literal sense. I sincerely apologize if I’ve offended some readers.
