Unread E-Cards

mailbox.jpgADOTAS — Will the online e-card business grow?

I have opened few of the online cards that I have received recently, and maybe because it’s that time of the year. Also I’m not a big card sender, whether in print or online, so I’m probably not the target audience anyway. But so far this year, that audience seems to be shrinking.

Cleveland, OH-based American Greetings reported losses of $193.3 million in itsscal Q308 earnings filings compared to a profit of $29 million last year. Revenues declined to $454.1 million from $485.8 million. AG Interactive has also seen a decline in advertising revenues, with the blame going to e-commerce businesses not growing as expected and the bad economy.

One problem is spam. I have received many, many spams with a deceptive “Subject” line announcing “You Have Received An E-Card,” or similar text.

Any real e-cards have a high chance of being dumped by my filters.

The business of cards survived because that is one time when people made efforts to communicate. With the new media the effort and money needed to communicate goes drastically down. So there wont be any NEED to communicate using say e-cards.

The fall of this form of business is natural
