Carmakers Rev Up Bailout Push With Search Ads

car11.jpgADOTAS – The beleaguered big three automakers (GM, Chrysler and Ford) are taking all of their digital-marketing savvy and applying it to their push for billions in federal aid, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

All three have launched campaigns online on YouTube, blogs, social networking sites and good-old-Google (find ads linked to keywords such as “auto bailout” and “9 billion loan”). The companies are employing tried-and-true “if we go down, the industry will collapse, leading to a domino effect that will eventually lead to your own demise” tactics.

Online advertisers are already feeling the pinch as GM, Ford and Chrysler grapple with their demise – and slash marketing budgets in the process. It’s unclear how sympathetic the average consumer will be, but Ford told the Journal that the campaign has gained significant traction on Twitter.
