What’s Next for Beleaguered Yahoo?

buzz1.jpgADOTAS – AOL’s CEO Randy Falco was flapping his gums about Yahoo at its ad-buyer bribing fete at the Natural History Museum last night, according to Silicon Alley Insider.

Falco told the pub that contrary to some buzz about Yahoo president Sue Decker slipping into Jerry Yang’s recently vacated shoes, she may be out as well.

So who is next in line to become Yahoo’s CEO? Inquiring minds want to know and the industry is abuzz with possible answers. (Yahoo hired search firm Heidrick & Struggles to aid in their search.) Names that keep popping up include News Corp.’s COO Peter Chernin, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, former AOL honcho Jon Miller, former Yahoo COO Dan Rosenweig, former Fox Interactive honcho Ross Levinsohn, Google advertising exec Tim Armstrong and others.

Whoever Yahoo’s board picks to lead, will most likely determine whether the company stays independent, or ends up under Microsoft or another company’s umbrella. So what does the board want? A strong leader to forge a new beginning for Yahoo or a diplomat who can better manage the notoriously mismanaged merger talks with Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer. Time will tell — and Ballmer is waiting.
