Microsoft To Rebrand Search Engine

search.jpgADOTAS – In what looks like yet another (probably ill-advised) bid to catch up with Google, Microsoft is rebranding its Live search engine, TechCrunch reports.

Windows Live Search will be renamed early next year. A few names have been batted about, but Kumo appears to be in the lead. Kumo means spider or cloud in Japanese.

TechCrunch predicts that if the change goes through, Live.com will focus on social networking and becoming a personal productivity portal.

Reader Comments.

They would be better off to just spend the dollars it takes to re-brand it on marketing the Live brand, or going back to MSN Search.

Nothing worse than taking the strongest identification with the public, the Microsoft name, removing it and expecting positive results.

Why don’t they just call it “Dead” or “MLAACWG” (Microsoft’s Latest Attempt at Competing with Google).
