Keystream To Utilize Empty Spaces in Videos

online_video_small.jpgADOTAS – Keystream has unveiled a new platform, dubbed SmartAd, that enables online publishers and advertisers to automatically insert ads into empty spaces in video streams.

The SaaS platform, freshly out of beta mode, uses object recognition technology to intuitively locate subject matter on the screen and place ads in blank spaces, which are found on average once every two minutes, the company said.

While Keystream said its initial tests resulted in dramatic improvements in user response (compared with traditional online ad models), some in the industry wonder if random ads placed in video streams will do more to irritate than entice the consumer.

SmartAd uses a flat CPM-based revenue model and customers are only charged once an ad has been served.
