Gmail Unveils Free Video, Chat Service

google_recruiting_small.jpgADOTAS – Google has launched Gmail voice and video chat, in a bid to compete with Skype. The new service enables Gmail and Google App subscribers to chat with friends on a video screen and IM with them in a Google Chat box – as long as they have a webcam and small browser plugin. (Users without webcams can still use the chat service).

While video chatting is nothing new for major online players (Yahoo and Microsoft offer it through their IM services), Google is the first of the big three to offer it for free.

The feature is both Mac and PC-friendly.
