Report: Google Shutters Café

closedown.jpg ADOTAS – Google, the mystical land of free food, dry cleaning and massages may be exiting Never-Never-Land. One of the first signs: Google’s Off the Grid café (one of 18 in-house food options) has closed its doors, according to a report on Valleywag.

While Googlers were reportedly told the closure wasn’t permanent, the removal of the café’s fixtures tells a more ominous tale. Could the seemingly invincible Google be slammed by the recession along with the rest of us? Valleywag certainly seems to think so.

Other signs of weakness per Valleywag:

Snack stations are being closed.
Much of Google HQ is without breakfast service.
SmartWater is no longer available.

It’s going to take more than a few snack-budget slashes to convince anyone that Google is in real trouble, but disappearing perks, no matter how seemingly minor, are never a good sign.
