Mathis To Lead Epic Charge Into Europe, Asia

8steps_small.jpgADOTAS – The board of directors at online marketing shop Epic Advertising has formally named Don Mathis as its chief executive officer. Previously, he was president and chief operating officer – and under his watch, Epic business has grown consistently and will presumably continue to do so as the company expands its reach in Europe and Asia.

“The board’s decision confirms their support for the direction the company has taken and where it’s headed next,” Mathis told ADOTAS.

The newly minted CEO modestly attributes much of Epic’s success to his staff.

“I’d say what I’m most proud of is establishing a team-work framework for operating the company,” he explained. “Morale is extremely high and we have an edge over our competitors because we push a lot of the decision making to the front line – the people who interact with clients on a daily basis. We’ve managed to capture the promise of what a new media company is supposed to be – we’re not just a company running on the great ideas of a few people. We’re a company running on the ideas and innovation of our entire team.”

And so far, Epic hasn’t felt the sting of the economy. The performance space is actually benefiting, Mathis said.

“It helps that we’re serving larger, branded advertisers and expanding internationally,” Mathis said. “Twelve months ago, we were working with a ton of direct advertisers but with very few global brands. They didn’t really want to get into the performance space, but the economy is pushing them in that direction.”

About 10% of Epic’s revenue has also come from the company’s initial inroads into global markets – up from 0% at the beginning of this year. In the coming months, Epic plans to open an office in Europe and eventually move into Asia.

“We are pleased and extremely excited to name Don Mathis as CEO,” said Brian Conway, a director of the company and a Managing Director with TA Associates, a global private equity firm with a significant investment in Epic Advertising. “Based on his outstanding leadership and extensive industry knowledge, we believe Don is the ideal choice to continue to grow Epic Advertising well into the future.”

Epic Advertising is headquartered in New York, with offices in San Francisco and Toronto. The company is privately held and backed by private equity firms TA Associates and Stripes Group.
