google_polling_small.jpgADOTAS – Google is set to cash in on a recent tweak in its AdWords quality scoring system. The search titan announced that the recalculation will help determine the order of ads for various keywords.

As Google users execute searches, ad quality will be calculated in real-time while simultaneously analyzing click-through rates. Landing page quality won’t be tracked as frequently, the company said.

Industry observers expect Google to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars in extra ad revenue by boosting click-through rates for advertisers and replacing minimum bid prices with first page bid estimates.

It’s the death of the “inactive” keyword, which means a new lease of life for a huge amount of dormant keywords in Google’s inventory, and a double-whammy:

1. existing keywords go active and start generating clicks where there were none (admittedly for low ad positions and click charges, but free money nevertheless)

2. a land-grab by panicking advertisers who suddenly realise they aren’t on page one but need to be there - expect a sudden flurry of escalating bid prices which cannot be sustainable as advertisers who don’t know their numbers realise they can’t play at this price
