CA Lawmakers Call on DOJ To Approve Yahoo/Google Deal

google_recruiting_small.jpgADOTAS – A group of Democratic House members from California recently sent a letter to the Justice Department urging them to not block the much-maligned Google/Yahoo ad deal.

The letter was addressed to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey. Lawmakers warned that blocking the deal could lead to a suit against the department charging it with stymieing growth and competition in the industry (two things many critics of the deal are concerned about).

“If such action were taken, we believe such an unprecedented suit could detrimentally affect the online advertising market and electronic commerce,” the letter, signed by Reps. Anna Eshoo, Ellen Tauscher, Zoe Lofgren, George Miller and Doris Matsui, read. The district Eshoo represents includes Google’s Mountain View home and Yahoo’s Sunnyvale.

Under the deal the companies signed in June, Google will give Yahoo ads to run on Yahoo’s search site.
