google_recruiting_small.jpgADOTAS – Verizon and Google are set to launch a mobile search partnership – a move that will shake up the burgeoning industry and a sign that major players are looking beyond the tried-and-true online advertising techniques they’ve come to rely on.

Mobile search is still in its infancy (it’s worth about $224 million in spending this year eMarketer predicts), and a partnership between a top carrier and the top Internet player will likely drag the mobile search industry into the big leagues. The deal has not been finalized, according to The Wall Street Journal, the first publication to report on the Verizon-Google talks.

One major sticking point: Google wants to save data from users’ cellphone searchers, but Verizon doesn’t want to turn over the goods.

If the deal does go through, any involved parties (Medio Systems is slated to handle the search service) would split ad revenue that comes in from keywords users search, the Journal reports.
