Microsoft Sued for Click Fraud
ADOTAS – Microsoft is joining the ignominious ranks of Google and Yahoo with a click fraud suit of its own, Mediapost reports.
An interactive advertiser in Florida, Interactive Retail Management, alleges Microsoft billed it for invalid clicks. The trouble began when Interactive Retail started doing business for the online store alle Fine Jewelry, which placed PPC ads on MSN shopping sites, Mediapost reports. The suit claims that 20% of clicks on the ads were fraudulent.
The suit was filed in Florida; last week, an appellate court ruled that the trial could proceed. (Previously, the suit was dismissed on the grounds that the retailer’s contract with Microsoft stipulated that litigation must occur in Washington state).
Alle Fine Jewelry is requesting a refund for fees it paid on invalid clicks and an injunction that would prevent the software giant from charging for fraudulent clicks in the future, Mediapost reports.
