courtship2.jpgADOTAS – The WPP Group, an ad and marketing behemoth, has launched a hostile bid for Taylor Nelson Sofres, a market research and information group. In echoes of the Microhoo debacle, TNS had rejected three previous takeover bids from WPP – and it’s rejected the latest offer as well.

However, unlike Yahoo, TNS is not a total commitment-phobe: it would just prefer the German audience measurement firm GfK as its partner. But now GfK is rethinking its position, which was originally hammered out as an equal partnership. That deal, in the works since May, was valued at $154 million.

GfK is reportedly now considering offering an undisclosed parcel of cash for TNS and has received positive signals from the object of its affection.

WPP is offering $2.13 billion for TNS.
