Facebook Gets Face Lift, Accentuates Ads

facebook_small.jpgADOTAS – Facebook has revamped its look and is giving interactive ads new play. (The long-awaited redesign will also edit out some of social site’s clutter on both its home page and its members’ profiles). With its newfangled approach to ads, new display units have been launched and ads’ placement and grouping have been tweaked. “The new placements give advertisers new options and a meaningful space for ads, while being useful and unobtrusive,” Facebook said in a release.

All pages will now feature ads on the right side of the page – and two can run in the same space, either as separate units or with one above a banner. But two is the max a viewer can see online (not including ads that appear in applications).

Advertising will be sold through its direct sales team.

Top social dog MySpace changed its look in June.

Reader Comments.

Facebook is light years ahead of MySpace in targeting ads. Their self serve ad delivery is right up there with Ad Words in my opinion. Hopefully their direct ad sales will be targeted as well. I like that they keep the banner size small, doesn’t seem to be as intrusive as MySpace ads.
