labtest.jpgADOTAS – In a bid to monetize its traffic and bring in ad dollars, online health company, Waterfront Media, has gobbled up search-engine marketing and optimization firm Netramind. Financial details were not disclosed.

Netramind’s search technology and U.S. staff will be absorbed by Waterfront; the company will maintain its office in India. Netramind’s founder and CEO will come on board as Waterfront’s vice president of search technology.

Waterfront publishes EverydayHealth and its Netramind buy is widely seen as an attempt to beat WebMD as the country’s leading health info site. (It trails WebMD’s roughly 19 million unique monthly visitors by about 5 million, but the site’s traffic did quadruple last year). But the field of online health info (and advertising) is getting increasingly fractious and competitive with newly launched Health.com and MSN Health.

In all, Waterfront has 20 health-related sites and has raised about $37 million in funding since its inception in 2002. Last year, Waterfront snapped up My-Calorie-Counter.com.
