Sergey Brin: Space Cadet

rocket1.jpgADOTAS – Super-genius Google co-founder Sergey Brin wants to explore his spacey side, according to a report in The New York Times.

Space Adventures, a Virginia-based company, arranges trips to space for the rich and curious; travelers will ride on Russian Soyuz rockets to the International Space Station. Brin recently made a $5 million investment in the company that will likely serve as a deposit on a future flight, the Times reports. (And it may be a relatively minor deposit – trips to space have cost non-astronauts like Dennis Tito up to $40 million).

Brin will likely capture one of two available seats on Space Adventures’ flight scheduled for 2011.

“I am a big believer in the exploration and commercial development of the space frontier, and am looking forward to the possibility of going into space,” Brin said in a statement.

Google is also a sponsor of the Google Lunar X Prize, a $25 million competition to land an unmanned craft on the moon.
