Is an “Orgy” Obscene? Ask Google!

porn.jpgADOTAS – Google is headed to court. Well, its search data is at least. In a obscenity trial in Florida, the defense plans to use publicly accessible search data from the Internet giant to make it clear that what might be considered “obscene” searches are actually the norm, not the exception, The New York Times reports.

The defendant in the case is a pornographic Web site operator and the judge and jury must decide how to determine if sexually explicit material is in fact obscene. Residents of Pensacola, Fla., are more likely to use Google to search for terms like “orgy” than “apple pie,” The Times reports. The defense is arguing that the interest in sexual subjects exceeds the interest in mainstream topics – making the material his client delivers within the boundaries of normalcy.

The trial is scheduled for July 1.

Reader Comments.

I cant wait to see the outcome of this trial.
