iPhone’s “Pornucopia” a Boon for Advertisers?
ADOTAS – Say it ain’t so. Is iPhone’s next claim to fame going to be the ease and frequency with which mobile consumers can surf porn sites?
According to a report in Time Magazine, it’s already happening.
The coming iPhone “pornucopia” is being aided and abetted by the technological feats of the 3G: still images, steamy chat services and, er, “moan tones,” which are pretty self-explanatory. The market’s already exploded in Europe (video chatting is reportedly a big hit).
The popularity has been noted by Google Trends, which shows a significant increase in recent months in the popularity of the search term “iPhone porn.” (The search term ranked particularly high in Washington, D.C., New York and Richardson, TX).
So what’s the deal? According to Time, “Leading porn purveyors see the iPhone as a dream come true. Its relatively ample screen size, speedy Web access and ease of use are just part of it. The device’s miniaturized version of Apple’s Safari software simplifies mobile access and streamlines the process of tailoring dirty sites for optimal viewing on the go.”
Already, the adult industry is throwing money into the iPhone porn marketplace – the faster-loading pages and faster running video will surely help. And according to Nielsen Mobile, about three out of four iPhone users are men with cash to burn; more than one-third of iPhone users spend north of $100 on phone and data charges a month (compared to one-fifth of other cell-phone consumers).
Classy mobile marketers take note!

It already is. Sex and porno were #8 & #9 top mobile search firms in Q1 2008 as reported in the Crisp Wireless Index. Visit http://www.crispwireless.com/analytics/register to get sign up for the report.
As if cell phone manners aren’t bad enough out there - it’s tiring hearing someone else’s conversation while trying to enjoy a meal in a restaurant. Now you will have to worry about accidentally seeing some porn if you look over at the person next to you on a train or something. This is truly a sad downturn for online and society! Not to mention how do they plan on blocking kids and teens from viewing porn on their phones?
