fish1.jpgADOTAS – Interactive advertising smarty-pants Matt Freeman has been snagged by GoFish to run its operation as CEO – he’ll also sit on the company’s board. Freeman hails from Omnicom Group’s digital network Tribal DDB, which he built from the ground up about 10 years ago, growing the company’s annual revenue from $5 million to $250 million.

Freeman replaces Michael Downing at GoFish. The online media company has about 21 million unique users a month in the U.S. and 66 million worldwide. Freeman said he hopes to leverage blue-chip brands through engagement, not just technical tinkering.

“Companies like McDonald’s and Nike cannot build their brand through buying search keywords alone,” Freeman said in a release. “As online audiences continue to fragment beyond the portals, major brands still need a way to connect with mass audiences. GoFish offers advertisers meaningful brand engagement, not merely direct response, across an ever-expanding portfolio of digital properties that are at the vanguard of consumers’ passions and interests.”

At Omnicom, Freeman will be replaced by Paul Gunning, Tribal DDB East’s president.

GoFish focuses on reaching children, teens and moms; the company specializes in aggregating and distributing premium content on a network of sites for which GoFish is the exclusive brand advertising monetization partner.

I think he is making a smart move. Sites like Multigames.com, Miniclip and Kongregate are doing something really interesting that creates new ad opportunities.
