Google To Ditch Yahoo in Wake of Microhoo Flop
ADOTAS – Is Google less interested in pursuing a search/advertising deal with Yahoo? Widespread reports and industry watchers say … “yes.”
For one thing, regulators at home and abroad have already derided the potential deal as violation of anti-trust regulations. Also, cynics say Google was only feigning interest in an attempt to break up the now busted Microsoft/Yahoo merger.
According to Hitwise, Google had a 67.25% share of the search market as of March. Yahoo had 20.29%, while Microsoft trailed at 6.65%. The numbers were fairly steady year-over-year, though Yahoo and Microsoft both lost some of their market share to Google — .97% and 2.45%, respectively.
In other words, Google doesn’t need Yahoo. It’s doing just fine on its own.
