ADOTAS – Yet more evidence of prints’ continuing brain drain: Ien Cheng, the most senior digital executive at the vaunted, salmon-tinged Financial Times, is leaving to join Google’s European interactive advertising team, The Guardian reports.
Cheng worked at FT for eight years; at Google, he will be the director of product management for advertising.
“I remain as proud of and hopeful for the Financial Times in a digital age as ever,” Cheng said in an internal memo leaked to The Guardian. “I’ve simply been offered an opportunity at Google that is, for me, unmissable.”
Cheng has been credited for FT.com’s turnaround, which has seen an 85% increase in page views in the first quarter of this year. He will join Google next month.
