Intel Joins the Computer-Pocket Party
ADOTAS – Intel launched yet another 1,000 “what’s that in your pocket?” jokes today by announcing its intention to deliver the “Internet in your pocket.”
The company’s arriving a bit late to the computer-pocket party so it has its work cut out for it. The announcement was scheduled to be made in Shanghai today at the Intel Developer Forum where the giant chip maker will provide details on its new lineup of low-cost, low-power processors that it claims will fill the gap between smartphones and laptops, though the first generation will be focused on data, not voice.
Intel has dubbed the new lineup of Mobile Internet Devices the Atom. The battery-powered devices will likely ship later this quarter and unlike PDA’s, it will be able to run operating systems like Windows Vista. The gizmos will likely sell for between $400 and $600.
Industry watchers are eager to see how Apple, an Intel customer, and industry leader in all things fresh and cool, reacts to Intel’s new line of processors.
