Ad:tech SF, The Party Begins
***ALERT***
The ADOTAS AdverCircus (http://www.advercircus.com) Ad:Tech Party is Tuesday @ 9pm, at Ruby Skye, 420 Mason St. This will be the blow out party of Ad:Tech SF.
Now back to regularly scheduled programming….
Get ready, boys and girls … the highly anticipated ad:tech is upon us once again! But before we make the annual April trek to San Francisco, ADOTAS and yours truly are here to give you the lowdown on what’s going on during, around and after all those meetings and sessions.
(Before we get to the fun stuff though, I’ve got a revelation for all of you – I will actually be doing booth duty this show! And this does not mean hanging out with the lovely ladies at The BizOpp Network’s booth or lounging around the closest booth with a keg, I swear: my company is exhibiting this year. And before anyone gets any ideas, this is not a shameless plug – no way would I mention that we’re at booth 5544 – that would just be tacky!)
This edition of ad:tech is taking place during the middle of the week – Tuesday through Thursday – with the exhibition hall open the first two days. For those of you getting into town over the weekend, there’s plenty to do – shop, catch a Giants game, visit some Napa or Sonoma vineyards – oh, and tons of bars, restaurants and nightlife, which I’ll get into a little bit later.
As I write this article, the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship is playing in the background. In the spirit of things, I’m planning to begin with an event thrown by a women’s network, Ad Femme. Presented by Motive Interactive, and sponsored by eBrand Marketing, Dedicated media, 360i, Innovation Interactive, and searchignite, the Ad Femme Party will be held at Swig at 561 Geary Street. You must RSVP.
MediaWhiz is throwing what they call “ad:tech’s #1 Party” on Tuesday night at DragonBar. This event, called “WickedWhiz”, features an open bar, MediaWhiz dancers, free food, and DJ Trius spinning funk and hip hop until 2 a.m. This is an invite-only party limited to 300 VIPs, so don’t bother showing up to crash the party. And if you’re not invited, then you should just do more business with MediaWhiz.
Fosina Marketing Group and Hydra are throwing a party Wednesday night at Vessel, one of the town’s hotspots. This party has no RSVP link or guest list – but you must have a VIP card to get in. Ooooh… reminds me of the speakeasies of the 1920s! If you haven’t been invited yet, you need to do more business with Hydra and Fosina! Stop by their booths – 5754 for Hydra and 6448 for Fosina – to talk biz and to get your entry cards for the party!
The party event of ad:tech seems to be the bash that will be thrown at Temple on Wednesday night. This “come one, come all” party is sponsored by Next Internet, WebJuice, Adteractive, NextClickMedia, and WebYes. There’s bound to be a ton of people at this party, so this will satisfy the socialite crowd. There’s an open bar from 9 p.m. to midnight, which will also satisfy the cheap crowd and the alcoholic crowd. Did I mention the event will be hosted by Playboy models Kaila Yu and Sasha Singleton? That will satisfy both the horny crowd and “desperate-and-optimistic-but-have-no-chance” crowd. This party is open to all, but you must RSVP.
Of course, there’s a ton to do around San Francisco that is not ad:tech-related. Since I’m a South Floridian, I always get a local to cover this part of the column. The last few years, Diego Canoso from Adteractive has lent a hand. But staying with the women-centric theme, I’d like to introduce the lovely and talented Taryn Stoddard for Vinyl Interactive! Take it away, Tee….
Thanks, Warren…First off, I want to welcome all ad:tech-ers to our fantastic city. Luckily for attendees, the Moscone Center, ad:tech’s host venue, is located in the up-and-coming part of the city, SOMA — or the ‘South Of Market Area’ for the not-so-locals—packed full of some of the hottest restaurants, nightlife and shopping all within walking distance or a short cab ride away.
I recommend heading out to the Embarcadero on the Bay Side of the city and hit up Waterbar or Epic Roast House. Located adjacent to each other, both restaurants are just over a month old and serve as a grade-A place to host a happy hour, share a drink with a client or engage in a full course meal. Both eateries have excellent service, delicious menus and not to mention some of the best views of the Bay Bridge and Treasure Island.
One of my all-time favorite places to take my clients though is the Greek restaurant, Kokkari. Located in the financial district, Kokkari plays host to the best lamb chops in the city, 5-star service and an old world wine reserve menu to die for. We still on for lunch here, Silvia? Niiiice!
Speaking of wine, wine bars are popping up all over San Francisco. I recommend District. Located a block from AT&T Park, District boasts a hearty wine list. Try the Cantena Malbec and sample their bread pudding dessert, you won’t be disappointed.
Now on to the nightlife – Warren mentioned some of the ad:tech parties, but let me tell you San Franciscans are big appreciators of music, and the city boasts an eclectic array of venues to prove it. SF dance clubs attract world-renown DJs and people who appreciate letting loose and partying. If you want to experience some bass in yo’ face and getting’ your groove on, your best bets are will be Temple, Vessel, Harlot and Slide. Call ahead get bottle service and enjoy the beats!
A great alternative to the earth-shaking clubs of SF is either the live music venues like Yoshi’s or Jazz At Pearl’s. If swanky lounges are more your style, be sure to check out Ambassador, Redwood Room (still an Adtech and local favorite), or Circa. You want dive bars? Hit up the Mission or North Beach. There will be several on every corner.
Now, this wouldn’t be a proper “ladies guest spot” if I didn’t hook you up with suitable places to shop or to get a decent mani/pedi in San Fran. To score the perfect power suit or replace that heel you broke walking around the convention center, head one block west from Moscone to the San Francisco Center. Here you will be welcomed by the brand new Bloomies, not to mention all her buddies like Nordies and Vickie’s. If you prefer to do your best shopping stroll outdoors, head north to Union Street in the Marina.
Chip a nail? Need your nails buffed out? Metro males, you know I’m talking to you. Head to Zaza Nail Spa – home of the fastest drying top coat – Mizu Spa, and Polished Lounge.
So, take my advice from above or go discover your own San Francisco, but whatever you do please be sure to enjoy our “city by the bay,” have a productive ad:tech, stop by Warren’s booth or email me to see if we can get some business going, taryn@vinylinteractive.com … thanks for my shameless plug and for letting me guest write, Warren!
Well, thank you, Taryn! So to all of you heading out to the City by the Bay: work hard, play harder, and Taryn and I will see you in San Francisco!
