Verizon And AT&T Take Home The Most Shoes. I Mean, Spectrum.

verizon2.jpgADOTAS – AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless have been reported to be the largest winners in the bid at the government auction of radio spectrum, putting both firms in the commanding position to roll out the advanced wireless online services to consumers, according to wsj.com.

The companies accounted for 80% of the almost $20 billion the FCC made on the auction. AT7T agreed to pay $6.6 billion for 227 spectrum licenses while Verizon will pay $9.4 billion for 109 licenses.

The report continued to say that although Google did not acquire any licenses, the firm may still may gain as much as the top bidders through an open-access provision that allows users to use any phone of software they would like on a piece of the spectrum.
