Top 50 Web Rankings For February
ADOTAS - ComScore released its monthly analysis of U.S. consumer activity on top online properties for February 2008. The month saw an increase in activity on political, tax, greeting and news sites. Jack Flanagan, executive VP of comScore Media Metrix said “February is one of the busiest times of the year for greetings and gift sites with the celebration of Valentine’s Day. These sites are particularly convenient for the procrastinators among us who wait until the last minute to buy their loved ones a gift.”
For the second consecutive month, the tax category is the fastest growing overall with a 34% increase to over 31 million visitors last month to sites such as IRS.gov (up 43%), TaxACT (up 66%) and H&R Block (up 26%).
Valentine’s Day gave a boost to flowers/gifts/greetings sites with a 17% growth and e-card sites with a 14% growth. ProFlowers.com jumped in numbers (up 244%), FTD.com followed with (up 273%) and 1-800-flowers.com (up 125%).
Super Tuesday and other primaries shot up the viewing of political sites. BarackObama.com had a 9% increase in February (up 46% from January), HillaryClinton.com was up 31% and John McCain’s site increased 49%.
Yahoo Sites lead as the top property with 137 million visitors; Google Sites came in second with 136 million visitors and Microsoft Sites with over 118 million visitors. Platform A led the ad focus ranking in February reaching 90% of Americans online. DRIVEpm and Traffic Marketplace both moved up two positions coming in at 11 and 14.
