Mike, I just came back from attending SES NY and sat through the Social Search Session Track and your insights on Twitter are very timely. Social Media marketing was a very hot topic at the conference. Linda Evans from KeyRelevance did a presentation just on Twitter and Flickr. I have been one of the people that just didn't get it up until. Now between what I learned from Linda and you I'm going to open up an account on both and start twittering this weekend. Thanks.

Mike, first and foremost, thanks for the shout out! Now, am I to infer from your opening sentence - " Twitter is hard to understand for normal people" - that we are in fact "abnormal"?

Well said; particularly love the notion of "forced clarity" introduced by the 140 character limit (would that all our communications were as crisp!).

One additional consideration: I believe twitter is also noteworthy for its open architecture. The 3rd party ecosystem that exploded around their service is a testament to the power of open systems: witness the search/meme tools, desktop and browser plug ins, posting/alert apps, and of course the huge array of mobile-friendly tools out there. This ecosystem represents millions of dollars in intellectual property and develop R&D that twitter, inc. didn't have to incur (but from which they have benefited).
