Google Dropped By T-Mobile, Picks Up Yahoo
Yahoo beat out Google in an online turf war in Europe. On Tuesday T-Mobile announced that it’s switching its web services in northern and central Europe from Google to Yahoo. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Industry watchers say the move proves Yahoo’s momentum in mobile services has not been stymied by Microsoft’s unsolicited bid to take over the company. Yahoo will reach almost 90 million customers through T-Mobile – it will cover users in 11 European countries.
The deal – set to take effect in March — will bring the number of subscribers covered by partnerships Yahoo has struck with mobile carriers over the past year to more than 600 million potential customers, Reuters reports. T-Mobile plans to offer customers Yahoo’s oneSearch, mail, Flickr and messenger services.
The announcement was made by T-Mobile and Yahoo at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
