Introducing Content Aggregator Fancast
Today, Comcast announced the launch of Fancast.com, a single destination film and television site where users can watch over 3,000 hours of TV, short videos and movie trailers. Users can also check show listings and check an actor database, reports Reuters.
This offering, which mirrors aspects of other sites, is the first to aggregate so many large content providers due to deals with CBS, Viacom and Hulu, owned by NBC and the Fox Network. The report continues to say that data partners include IMDB, which is provides comprehensive film information.
Executive VP of Comcast Interactive Media Sam Schwartz has stated in an interview before the Consumer Electronics Show that “We want to help consumers find content wherever they go. Anything’s that’s been on at the movie theater or on television is fair game to us.”
The company has licensing deals for over 50,000 TV shows, 80,000 movies and data on 1.2 million entertainment industry people for the site. The site also has a feature called “Six Degrees” which gives users the opportunity to find connections between movies, TV shows, cast and crew.
The company is also planning on moving some of the Fancast features to set-top box so a TV viewer may be able to find information about an actor as well. Also, Fandango and Fancast will be integrated executives say.
