FohBoh: The Social Network For Food!
FohBoh Inc. announced the launch of its first-to-market social network for the global restaurant, food and beverage industry today. FohBoh is short for “front of the house, back of the house” and focuses on creating the “LinkedIn” for the restaurant business.
Michael L. Atkinson, CEO and co-founder of the site stated “There’s not been a major online social gathering spot for folks in our industry until now. MySpace and Facebook are clear leaders in generic social networking today and have educated the market, but they are entirely horizontal, so they don’t cater well to niches of specific interest. This is where FohBoh excels. A restaurateur in Australia might give someone in Chicago a terrific idea on how to better promote their restaurant.”
The site is free but has installed a Rewards Program as an incentive. Members earn points by participating, contributing and inviting other to join in. Members also earn 10% of the points referred members earn. The company has even set aside 4% of its stock (1 million shares) as its first redemption reward. Every 1,000 points earns one share of shadow stock and one billion points are up for grabs on the first come, first serve basis. “This is our way of giving back to our membership from the start. People know social networking firms are reaping big rewards, and we want our members to share in any potential upside they help generate,” said Ted Cohn, FohBoh’s president and co-founder.
