Viacom Cuts Five-Year Deal With Microsoft

deal.jpgToday, Viacom has announced that it has chosen Microsoft Corp. as its Online advertising partner for a five-year agreement estimated at an initial value of $500 million that includes online gaming, shows and movies.

Microsoft will assist Viacom in placing advertisements on Viacom’s U.S. properties and will be the exclusive seller of its remnant display ads, or ad space the company is not able to sell according to Reuters.

The software company will also license on a non-exclusive basis, short and long form TV and movies from Viacom for Xbox 360 online and MSN. There was also an agreement made by Microsoft to buy ads on Viacom’s broadcast and online networks over five years and to establish Viacom ad a publishing partner on Microsoft’s gaming sites.

This boosts Microsoft in the ad game against Google and Yahoo who have also been making strides in the online advertising business this year. Yahoo reportedly signed a deal in April with Viacom as well to provide search ads for 33 of its sites.
