Microsoft Sells Brand Name On eBay
Microsoft is selling its name for $1 million on eBay. In Portugal. And it’s not the Microsoft you’re thinking of. Portuguese firm Microsoft Lda. is intending to put its brand name and business up for sale on eBay.
The company is the only firm that is allowed to use the name Microsoft in Portugal as it registered the name in 1981 when Microsoft Corp. started operating in Portugal in 1990. The larger Microsoft is registered in Portugal as MSFT according to Reuters.
CEO Ricardo Carvalho said to Reuters that “MSFT has said it was interested in our brand name but needed more time to discuss the matter. We have held talks with them in the past and didn’t want to wait for them anymore.”
