worried.jpgYahoo Inc. is stepping up its game by combating what it calls “Web search fatigue” by implementing new feature that keep the search engine on par with its competitors. Included in searches now are video, picture and audio results as answers to text searches.

These additions are supposed to help the company better understand what a user is looking for and get them to the desired destination within a single search. According to Reuters, a study done by Harris Interactive for Yahoo showed that only 15% of adult users found what they were looking for within a single search, where most took three or four to find their final destination.

Yahoo Search Assist will suggest related topics that make a search more specific and include more options for the user across a wealth of sites and inventory from the search engine’s network. Search Assist is also said to be exceptionally helpful when it comes to searching for unfamiliar topics. A drop-down menu will appear under the main search box when the user seems to need help on a search.

Tags contributed by users on sites are being utilized to improve the relevance of Yahoo’s general search services.

The third major feature is Search Shortcuts which saves the user time in searching for popular categories such as music, movies, health, travel, sports, restaurants and shopping, by integrating reviews and ratings, official sites, photos and other helpful information to search results.
