Nintendo Grabs A Yahoo
It was reported yesterday that a Yahoo vet will be leaving the company to join a popular game firm. Cammie Dunaway, current CMO of Yahoo will be going to Nintendo of America.
The company is looking to expand the market for video games far beyond the younger, male demographic. Dunaway will come into the company as the executive VP for sales and marketing starting November 5th. The position has not been filled since Reggie Fils-Aime’s promotion in May of 2006.
Dunaway joined Yahoo in 2003 after spending 13 years at Frito-Lay. In a phone interview with The New York Times, she said “I’ve heard Nintendo say that everyone is a gamer.” She continued that the popularity of the Wii is proof “that video games are not a niche market.”
She will be based in the Silicon Valley office that Nintendo of America is opening in Redwood Shores, CA. The company itself is based in Redmond, WA.
Although this departure comes at a time that has been popular for such moves, Dunaway asserted in the report that her leaving, has nothing to do with the changes going on at Yahoo. She said to The NY Times “It was not a decision to leave Yahoo; it was really a decision to join Nintendo.”
