Study Shows: The Internet Wins Over Sex & Friends
A survey conducted by JWT, an ad agency produced surprising results about online behaviors and measured the addiction of most Americans to the Internet.
The survey was given to 1, 011 U.S. adults, and asked them how long they would feel “Okay” about going without the Internet. Approximately 15% said they could only go a day or less, 21% replied a couple of days, and 19% said a few days. Only 1/5 of those surveyed claimed they could go for a week.
A result of 48% of those surveyed said that the Internet use on their mobile phones was a necessary part of their everyday life.
Ann Mack, director of trend spotting at JWT told Reuters, “People told us how anxious, isolated and bored they felt when they are forced offline. They feel disconnected from the world, from their friends and family.”
The study also showed that 28% of those surveyed said they spent less time socializing in person because they were online; and 20% said they spent less time having sex because they were online.
WPP is the parent company of JWT, and has had JWT create a new ad category for people whose lives are taken over by new technology.
