SpiralFrog Is No Tadpole Anymore

musicnote.jpgAfter a rocky beginning with many executives leaving at the start of this year, the little engine that could, SpiralFrog, finally did.

SpiralFrog first came into the spotlight last summer when the company announced that it would offer free, ad-supported music. The founder of the company Joe Mohen told CNET News that the site has already started beta testing with a small number of users.

The site offers 800,000 songs and is the only ad-supported site at present that offers 3,500 music videos for download.

The company was developed as a potential answer to piracy. Mohen was quoted in USAToday to say, “We’re offering a high quality music experience free to consumers and supported by advertisers. We think the primary reason to use the site will be to discover new music.”

The site officially launched on September 17th, 2007.

Reader Comments.

I am not sure Spiralfrog will make it. Their rich media ads just don’t command a high enough CPM to pay decent royalties. Still they are a pioneer.

Clearly ignoring 80% (70% iPod+10% Zune) of the market is a recipe for success. Oh, what, you didn’t know that SpiralFrog won’t work on either of those?
