Newborn Site Finally Named: Hulu

jack.jpgNBCU and News Corp. announced last month that they would be collaborating on an online video site that would reportedly rival YouTube. The site has everything you could dream of: a couple of steady company’s operating it, endless amounts of content and $100 million of backing funds; however it did not have a name.

Now the company has changed all of that an unveiled the title of this would-be giant: Hulu. The name came out of a desire for a short and easy to spell title that is fun and easy to remember.

The company is excited about the name, but the industry’s response in large has been no less than cynical. Many bloggers and analysts have been putting down the name saying its silly and that no one will be able to spell it and that it’s not a good name for a company with so much funding.

The most interesting aspect of this reaction is the industry from which it comes. With giants named Google and Yahoo holding much of the online power now, who knows where Hulu will be in the next couple of years.

Hulu starts limited testing in October of this year.
