protest.jpgYouTube has received many challengers after launching their campaign to host a presidential debate with partner CNN. Adding to that list of contenders is MySpace and MTV. The two brands have been set to co-host a series of personal discussions with the 2008 presidential candidates.

The hour-long episodes will broadcast on MTV.com, MySpaceTV.com and on MTV and mtvU. Viewers will have the ability to submit their own questions using MySpaceIM. The first of the installments will be with candidate John Edwards on September 27th.

If users place the platform on their “Top 8” friends list, they will have the potential to win seats at the event itself, others may submit for seats sending in videos that focus on election topics that are personally relevant to the user.

In order to not be accused of copying the competition, MTV and MySpace have said that there will be more voter/candidate interaction than the CNN/YouTube debates. It has been reported that 81% of MySpace users are of the legal voting age.
