First Change For WSJ? Free Online Edition

contagious1.jpgNow that the Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal are well on their way to being part of the News Corp. family, Rupert Murdoch is talking about the future of the publication.

Murdoch believes that the Wall Street Journal online edition, which now creates the majority of its revenue from the $99 annual subscription fee, may benefit more from ad revenue.

Murdoch was quoted to say, “It would be an expensive thing to do in the short term. In the long term, it may be a great thing to do.”

News Corp. would make the online edition of WSJ free which, according to Murdoch would increase the readership and in effect, increase the revenue.
