Dow Jones Takes A Hit
The Dow Jones & Co. is changing hands in a closing that will probably take months to clear yet, but in that time will the value of The Wall Street Journal drop to bargain bin prices?
July was not a good month for the publication, dropping 20.9% and 7.2% in ad volume and revenue.
The firm has put the blame is the decline in classified and general advertising. Although there was a 21% increase in financial advertising, it did not prove to be enough to make up for the losses. In addition, ad revenue from various Dow Jones sites including WSJ.com increased 24% in July.
Neither News Corp. nor spokespeople from the Dow Jones have commented on how this may affect the purchase.
