Microsoft And JiWire Start Courting

courtship2.jpgMicrosoft has picked a new member of their dodgeball team before Google had a chance to. Enhancing their delivery platform, mobile ad network JiWire has been given the task to deliver ads to municipal WiFi networks in Oakland County, MI and Portland, OR.

The company will provide this as well as other municipal networks with local content. This will include customized search capabilities and an MSN landing page. There will also be a shared portion of ad revenue.

Users will have free service for viewing full-screen ads before hitting the MSN landing page. Ultramerical will be providing the full-screen ads and JiWire will provide other ad formats. The ladder of the firms has said it has the capability to target ads by location using its hotspot registry.

The Oakland network is the largest planned WiFi deployment with 910 miles and 1.2 million people covered. CPM prices will shift to anywhere between $35 and $150.

Google has a standing partnership with JiWire planning a network for the WiFi company’s home city of San Francisco.
