The Wait Is Over! Introducing The iPhone

apples.jpgThere is much anticipation in the air today as Apple will launch the iPhone this evening. Sales are expected to soar as customers started lining up at stores, and companies continue to put in bids for ground floor partnerships on what they hope to be an iPod-like juggernaut.

Much interest has been raised for features such as airplane adaptors, movie and video downloads specially for the iPhone and many others. Playboy.com is even launching a free collection of multimedia features designed for use on the iPhone called iPlayboy.

The competition is scrambling to stay in the game today. For example Verizon Wireless is keeping its stores open until 9 p.m. so customers can try out one of their phones that allow access to the V Cast Music library which supports over 2 million songs.

The most exciting part of the iPhone arrivalcomes with all of the implications for the online advertising community, especially in the mobile market.

The iPhone allows advertising to be more visible and readily available for the viewer on their mobile handset. Many companies will surely start taking the cue from this unprecedented piece of technology. There will be expediency in the development of marketing platforms and the budgets for such advertising will grow exponentially.

There is sure to be a shift in attitude towards digital advertising. With the further incorporation of rich media on frequently used devices like mobile phones, society will start viewing these ads as the new normative even moreso than with their current pc usage.

Although the naysayers are very vocal, Apple is predicted to sell about 1 million iPhones this fiscal year and about 8 million throughout the 2008 fiscal year. Stock in Apple has been climbing and will not stop as long as Steve Jobs is determined to turn this into an iWorld.

Apple stores are staying open until midnight. The iPhone will go on sale at 6 p.m. locally at every one of the 164 Apple stores nationwide and at 9 p.m. EST online.

Hi -

I tend to agree that the iPhone will change the modern media landscape. Even if in the future consumers don’t use the iPhone per se Apple’s entry into this arena will force other device manufacturers to make accessing media equally as easy.

My take on “What the iPhone Means for Podcasting As a Medium” can be found at http://www.mediabackpage.com.

Yes,

The iPhone uses an HTML Browser and now it will be mandatory that other phones step it up to match it. (windows mobile)

WAP Mobile ad networks better watch out. Their days are numbered.
