AT&T Gets in the Ring with WWE for Wireless Deal

AT&T announced it has inked an exclusive deal with the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc, which the parties say will provide the largest collection of mobile WWE content to the wrestling stalwart’s fanbase of over 15 million.

With the agreement, Cingular-now-AT&T will give fans the opportunity to interact on-the-go with the WWE via a custom-built mobile internet WWE portal that will house a wide range of related content, as well as a collection of WWE-themed videos, ringtones, voice tones and graphics.

“WWE fans love action — anytime and anyplace. Now, fans can carry the action with them wherever they go, just in time for WrestleMania,” states John Burbank, vice president of AT&T wireless marketing.

Shane McMahon, WWE’s executive vice president, Global Media, added, “Imagine something happens at RAW, SmackDown, or WrestleMania 23, and moments later, that moment in time is available on your AT&T handset. Because we own our intellectual property, we have the unparalleled ability to create this must- have content for our fans. In order to create the ideal fan-centric mobile experience, it was necessary to work exclusively with one partner who was an industry leader and that is why we teamed up with an innovator like AT&T.”

Each month, a basic package of videos will be featured, along with a premium package that delves further into WWE content. The video content, though, is only available to Cingular customers that have a 3G phone.
