The WSJ reported on Wednesday that a proposed deal between Google Inc. and CBS Corp. has been put aside while the two companies remain focused on working together on other initiatives. The deal, similar to that of one-time CBS parent Viacom and Joost, would have allowed YouTube users to view clips from CBS shows like “The David Letterman Show” on the popular Google-owned site.

According to a source in the WSJ, the companies were to close on a deal that would span over several years. Other discussions included how ad spots from CBS radio could be introduced to Google advertisers. The talks have recently come to a halt due to disagreements on issues like how long the deal would run, but Google and CBS do plan to work together on other aspects of their business.

A source in the WSJ stated that talks could be revived at a later date.

Just recently, Viacom pulled 100,000 clips from Google’s You Tube due to copyright owners protection disagreements. Instead, Viacom opted for Joost, created by the founders of Skype, to house video clips from the media conglomerate’s networks including BET and MTV.

Google continues to work towards attaining content for You Tube, specifically working on a deal to offer BBC content, the WSJ added.
