About.com Adds 500 Videos
Reference site About.com has added 500 original videos that span the site’s entire range of home and technology-related topics.
“By drawing from individual area experts, and leveraging advancements in technology, we have created a scalable method for producing broadband programming that allows us to quickly and significantly increase the number of videos we can offer users,” said CEO Scott Meyer in a statement. “We are essentially extending our model, which has been so successful in text and image creation, into video.”
About is using a new embedded video player that can combine the videos with other About.com content and offer more targeting opportunities to advertisers as well as simultaneous pre-roll and banner campaigns. The videos are also now able to be indexed by search engines.
About.com gets about 32 million visitors per month, according to Nielsen. The video player technology and hosting is provided by Brightcove, which operates its own video-sharing service and powers videos for companies like Time Inc., Dow Jones and AOL.
