Lycos Adds Music to Cinema
Internet portal Lycos has signed the World Digital Music Group (WDMG) to provide the Lycos Cinema video viewing/chat community with content from WDMG’s Your Music Channel. The content deal will allow community members to interact with each other while viewing 30-minute episodes of “City Sessions,” Your Music Channel’s series that showcases recording sessions from indie musicians around the U.S.
“With Lycos Cinema, WDMG is able to build a mass audience for our ‘City Sessions’ bands, giving up-and-coming indie bands broad exposure worldwide without having to navigate the traditional record-label labyrinth,” said WDMG chief digital officer Brad Smith in a statement. According to Smith, WDMG wants to tap into Lycos’s 25 million monthly visitors, particularly the 13-24 year old demographic that frequents Lycos’s Angelfire service.
While watching each episode, users can chat with each other and purchase City Sessions DVD’s. WDMG and Lycos are sharing revenue from DVD sales and Lycos Cinema advertising.
Lycos Cinema allows both public and private VIP interactive viewing sessions, and its parent company plans to unveil additional music content for Cinema this year.
