The game is free for users, and serves as a model for future Disney online worlds. “You can imagine living in Buzz and Woody’s toy universe, or fighting in the magical world of Narnia, or sharing the powers of the Incredibles,” said Disney CEO Robert Iger at a press conference alongside stars from Disney-owned ABC hit Lost and Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

The Pirates game is part of a major push by Disney to win the hearts of kids more interested in digital music players and online video than Mickey Mouse. “We are witnessing an explosion of media, and Disney is both reaping the benefits of that explosion and acting as a catalyst by take a technology-friendly approach,” Iger added.

Visitors to Disney’s new website can be customize it according to their age or gender. The company is also selling media online and streaming it for free, supported by advertising.
