AOL has announced that pioneering P2P service Napster will now be its exclusive online music subscription service, effectively replacing AOL Music Now. Subscribers to AOL Music Now will not be shunned, though, as the online media giant will convert accounts under the former music service to Napster accounts. That is, unless subscribers want to cancel their service altogether.

Within the next 60 days, the transferring of all accounts will take place. Once the sites begin working with one another, AOL will promote Napster with links on AOL Music.

On top of the accounts being transferred, Napster will also recreate personal Music Now music libraries and all playlists that consumers had on AOL Music Now. Prices will also remain at the same level as AOL Music Now, so that credits can also be used and transferred easily.

Napster, once a leader in the online music download industry, eventually had to shut down its services in 2001 due to lawsuits surrounding copyright infringement. In 2003, it was re-launched by Roxio, a software company. With this new deal, Napster can expand its level of subscribers.
